Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a Sponsor Licence? Most employers need a Skilled Worker sponsor licence, previously called a Tier 2 licence, to hire workers from outside the UK or those without work permission in the UK. Since Brexit, this also includes workers from the EU. This licence lets employers search for skilled workers worldwide.
What are the requirements for Sponsor Licence? The organisation must submit an online application with extra information and documents. Usually, you need at least 4 documents, such as proof of business premises, corporate bank account evidence, VAT Certificate, HMRC PAYE confirmation letter, Employer's Liability Insurance, and proof of registration with a regulator.
Am I eligible for a Sponsor Licence? To apply for a Skilled Worker sponsor licence, an organisation must be based and operating legally in the UK. The UKVI checks if the recruitment and HR systems can monitor migrant workers and meet sponsor duties. We offer a free assessment to identify other factors that might affect your application, based on our experience.
How long does it take to get sponsorship licence? Most applications (8 out of 10) are processed in under 8 weeks. UKVI might visit your business for a compliance check, causing delays. UKVI offers a priority service for £500 to get a decision in 10 working days, but it's limited to 10 applications per day and can be hard to access.
What if my sponsor licence application is unsuccessful? If the Skilled Worker sponsor licence application is refused, the organisation will receive written reasons. They can re-apply right away unless there's a cooling-off period of 6 or 12 months, depending on the refusal reasons. We can help if the refusal was due to an error, but a full reconsideration isn't possible. Organisations can challenge the decision through a Judicial Review.
Can I hire foreign workers outside the UK? Organisations can recruit foreign workers regardless of their location. Different processes apply for workers overseas versus those already in the UK who can be sponsored. Our corporate immigration team can help determine the right route and strategy for the licence and employee’s skilled work visa application.
